A total of 90 members of the community braved a dark and foggy morning to attend the Rotary club of London Hyde Park's "Meet the Mayoral Candidates" event at West Haven Golf and Country club this Thursday morning.  They were treated to 10 of the candidates speaking about their platform and vision for London.  The candidates pictured above and from right to left are:

Contact information for each of these candidates can be found at:  https://www.london.ca/city-hall/elections/list-of-candidates/Pages/Mayor.aspxn

Each candidate was given 2 minutes to introduce themselves, followed by questions from the community and then a 2 minute wrap-up.  Each candidate was introduced by Moderator John McDonald, who did a wonderful job keeping everything moving smoothly.  Rotarian & Past President Sue Storie (pictured below) timed the candidates who were given 2 warnings (yellow card followed by red card) as their time expired and then by polite applause once their time limit was up.  Sue was pleasantly surprised by how many of the Candidates were able to stay within their allotted 2 minutes.

Three of the questions asked by the community included:
1. What is your position on a new performing arts centre?
    Some yes & some no.
2. Will the unsuccessful candidates support the new Mayor, whoever that may be?
    All said they would.
3. What will be your most ambitious plan for the city during your tenure?
Answers varied from the new London plan to more employment to sustainable energy.

The club, community and Mayoral Candidates thank Barb Robins for organizing this very successful community service event on behalf of the Rotary club of London Hyde Park. As the two photographs below show, there was a lot of community interest in meeting the Mayoral candidates:
