Northbrae Book Drive

Rotary Book Drive for Northbrae Public School - 1000 new books published after 2018

A Book Drive for Northbrae

A Call for City-Wide Effort, in the Month of Literacy of September.

Dear Fellow London Rotarians,

Our community's youth deserve access to modern, engaging, and relevant educational resources. Unfortunately, Northbrae Public School is facing a severe literacy resource crisis due to long-standing funding shortfalls and a lack of community donations.

The Reality

Critical Shortage: Northbrae's library book stock is currently more than 40% lower than the provincial standard.

Outdated Material: The average publication year of their current collection is 2008 — nearly two decades of change the pupils are missing.

Our Goal: 1,000 Modern Books

We are now launching a city-wide drive to collect up-to-date books, published after 2018, providing Northbrae's students with contemporary literature and accurate science for learning materials.

What Books to Donate

We accept both new and used, published after 2018. Common titles found in children's section — graphic novels, picture books, or manga. These typically have a hardcover with illustrated, comic-style artwork.

You can also donate new books via Scholastic. Browse the wish list of the school library and follow the "how" part below.

The Four-Way Test, and How to Help

It is TRUE in Northbrae's book gap, FAIR in giving every child equal opportunity to learn, a builder of GOODWILL and fellowship among London's Rotary clubs, and BENEFICIAL to staff and students there.

How You and Your Friends Can Donate

• For physical books: please write to my email andy.zhao.rotary@gmail.com with approx. quantity and your address. I will schedule doorstep pick-up at weekends.

• For wish list purchase: please create and login your account at Scholastic Book Clubs, then add classroom code "RC102672" at "My Account". Search and "Gift to Class" books you want to donate, and then checkout. Use "bookdrive" for child's name. You may email me your purchased books, and the school kids may write back their gratitude.

Let's spread the news, and combine our networks to make a lasting, tangible impact on this shortage problem at Northbrae.

Yours in Rotary,

Andy Zhao
